Our Boat

Southern Star is owned and sailed by Lane and Judy Kendall from Mount Pleasant North Carolina. Southern Star (formerly Sea Breeze II) started her life on Lake Lanier near Atlanta. We bought the boat on late February 2003 and moved her to the Pamlico County North Carolina near Whortonsville on Brown Creek, where she is docked at Ensign Harbor,  home of the "Whortonsville Yacht & Tractor Club"

We started sailing in the early seventies when we purchased a
Chrysler "Dagger" from a local dealer in Raleigh, NC. We sailed on Kerr Lake and Lake Wheeler while we lived in Raleigh and Badin Lake when we moved to Mount Pleasant to run the family business. The "Dagger" was traded for a vintage "Rebel 16" which proved to be too small for our growing family. We traded the Rebel for an elderly Catalina 22 in the early eighties.

The Catalina 22, named Sarah, was an excellent choice. She was big enough for overnight excursions and small enough to trailer. We sailed the 22 for over 20 years with our sons, on Lake Tillery, Badin Lake and Lake Norman. After our sons were grown we decided to continue sailing in a larger boat. Since the Catalina 22 had worked so well, her big sister, the Catalina 30 was the obvious next step.
